Staff
All Childtown staff have been trained in the basic classes of First Aid, Child Abuse, Infectious Disease, Health and Safety, and CPR. Staff members hold college degrees and Child Development Associate degrees. Staff systematically attend Bright from the Start certified training. Background checks, physicals, and tuberculin tests are required of all new staff and have been satisfactorily provided by current staff.
Childtown is legally managed by a Board of Directors who select a Director who is in charge of operations, financial management, staff supervision, and program development and implementation. The Rev. Dr. Peggy Mayfield continues to be the Director of Childtown since September 2002. Dr. Mayfield is a licensed psychologist and an ordained minister in the Christian Church Disciples of Christ. Dr. Mayfield is the President of The Southern Clinic, Inc., providing psychological services in Gwinnett County since 1978. Dr. Mayfield is an honor graduate of Agnes Scott College and Georgia State University. She holds a B.A. degree in Liberal Arts, a M.Ed. in Rehabilitation Counseling, a S.Ed. In Psychological Assessment, and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology and Educational Leadership.
The Childtown Staff includes three Master’s Level staff, six staff with Bachelor’s Degrees, and six staff with current CDAs. Two staff are completing senior classes at Georgia State University. Childtown offers the opportunity for internships at the Bachelor’s, Masters, and Doctoral level. Currently, three Agnes Scott Seniors will have a semester practicum at Childtown beginning January 20, 2007 and a senior at Presbyterian College will intern during the summer of 2007.
Staff In-Service Training is a high priority and is planned throughout the year to meet and go beyond state and NAEYC requirements.
