ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIESDoes your child have interests beyond what is taught in class? Would you like to give your son or daughter new opportunities for learning and growth? Whether your child loves to run and play ball, dance any time there is music playing or makes the music themselves, we have enrichment classes for kids of all stripes. Watch your child grow as he or she learns a new language through Lango Atlanta, discovers different types of sports in SportsKids, builds confidence through karate with AtlantaKick or gains a new appreciation for music by taking one of our music classes. These developmentally appropriate classes are taught by insured providers who have been vetted using our standard hiring procedures. Parents register their children directly with the provider, either online or through the Childtown office mailboxes. Read on for more about our offerings. Karate with Atlanta KickKarate isn’t just a sport that can give your child a good workout, it is also known for developing concentration, teaching respect, building self confidence and teaching self defense, both physically and internally. AtlantaKick is a well respected karate and kickboxing studio that has been a part of the Atlanta community since 1992. Sign your child up to join teacher DeJon Brumfield for white-belt karate. Kidsport with Coach Baker The most obvious reasons to enroll your child in a sports program are to promote exercise and to have fun. That is just the tip of the iceberg, though. Young children learn important lessons about sharing, listening, and following rules through participating in sports. These lessons don’t just help them play sports better, but develop socialization skills off the field as well. Children also build self-esteem through sports—not just the kids who excel, but all kids. This is especially true for girls, who are more likely than boys to develop self-image problems as they get older. Coach Sean Baker will introduce your child to seven different sports: golf, soccer, tennis, basketball, bowling, t-ball and kickball. This is a great opportunity for your child to discover the sports he or she likes. Ballet/Tap with Creative Movement Like SportsKids and karate, children get exercise and develop self-esteem through dance but the similarities end there. Dance teaches children spatial awareness, moving safely, imaginatively and with confidence. Your child will learn how to communicate ideas, thoughts and feelings through dance, as well as exercise his or her imagination. Miss Becca uses stories to guide children through all of the basic ballet positions in this fun, creative class. Spanish with Lango AtlantaDid you know that the toddler and preschool years are the best time to learn a foreign language? At this age children are at their peak when it comes to their ability to learn. Even by kindergarten this ability is diminished. Learning a foreign language at a young age will benefit your child for years to come. Children who learn a foreign language early tend to do better socially and academically as they grow up. These language skills also help them develop better verbal communication, mathematical development and reasoning skills. |
